My research interests include quantitative precipitation estimation using remotely-sensed data (weather radar data), and its evaluation with ground measurements. I am trying to understand the physical processes of flood-producing rainfall and develop algorithms to estimate enhanced rainfall data. Using radar measurements to describe rainfall fields instead of sparsely distributed rain gauges provides the benefit of higher resolution information in space and time. The more accurate estimation of rainfall maps will contribute to more accurate real-time flood forecasting, as well as provide a better understanding of relevant flood physics.
