Floodplain mapping makes progress

Iowans should expect more flooding.

Climate change and land transformation over the years will contribute to the trend, said Connie Mutel, a historian and archivist at the University of Iowa’s IIHR-Hydroscience and Engineering Institute, at a speech Thursday night.

“Floods are what rivers do,” she said, adding that people should be prepared.

And a current University of Iowa project could help with that, said Larry Weber, the director of the UI Hydroscience Lab who spoke at a separate event Thursday evening.
