Iowa’s Bridge and Highway Climate Change and Extreme Weather Vulnerability Assessment Pilot

A pilot study was conducted for six bridges located in the Cedar River Basin and the South Skunk River Basin to develop a methodology for evaluating their vulnerability to climate change and extreme weather. The new methodology created streamflow scenarios using climate change predictions that could influence some Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) bridge design policies.
