I develop flood models that simulate how flooding occurs in communities. These models can be used to create “libraries” of inundation maps or to identify potential flood mitigation projects. The information ultimately allows communities to evaluate and reduce their flood risk.
I am also involved in the Iowa Watershed Approach program. I develop digital watershed models that simulate how rainfall is transformed into stream flow. The watershed models are used to create a hydrologic assessment to understand where runoff is currently being created and what practices can be implemented to reduce runoff.
