Water Resources EngineerMy primary interest is in floodplain management. I am currently focusing on the statewide floodplain mapping program for the State of Iowa, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). I am interested in hydrologic analyses, hydraulic modeling, Phtyon script programing, and geographic information system (GIS). I also have the opportunity learn about documentation and regulations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Through this project, we are delineating the flood boundaries for all streams that drain more than one square mile in area. Incorporating detailed and approximate zones that were previously studied and mapped, the new (updated) floodplain maps will be reviewed by FEMA and published to the state. These new maps will give the general public more detailed information about flood risk for their properties and the impact of floods in the state of Iowa.
