Iowa Children’s Water Festival
May 11 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Iowa Children’s Water Festival is a FREE one-day event where students can participate in hands-on activities that engage them in learning opportunities and empower them to protect Iowa’s water resources. Before you realize it, students will be talking about aquifers, surface waters, run-off, point source and non-point source pollution, watersheds, wetlands, the water cycle, and more! Various aspects of water-related topics are taught through interactive presentations, experiments, exhibits, games and stage shows. The students are exposed to careers and volunteer opportunities through adult role models. Rarely are students exposed to such a concentration of experienced professionals.
Iowa Flood Center staff will co-present with the National Weather Service to talk about watersheds, flooding, and flood safety. Using their interactive tabletop watershed model, IFC staff will demonstrate how changes to the landscape can impact downstream flooding. Join us!
